Contains the following type of materials: photographs. Covers the following wars: Indian Wars, World War II (WWII). General description of the collection: The Jonathan Wainwright photograph collection includes photos kept by General Wainwright that relate to his Army service and life from 1906 to his death in 1953. Five photos relate to the Army service of his father, Robert P.P. Wainwright, at West Point and in the 1st United States (U.S.) Cavalry between 1875 and 1901. Numerous excellent portraits of the general from West Point cadet to 4-star general; only nine photos, however, cover his career up to 1942. A few photos of he and others as a prisoner of the Japanese. A large album and some loose photos cover his return from prison and the welcome home tour of the U.S. in 1945; photos of his tenure as 4th Army Commander from 1945 to 1947, after which assignment he retired; numerous post-retirement photos as well as some of family and friends. His funeral procession at Arlington Cemetery is also captured in pictures.

Jonathan Mayhew Wainwright IV (b. August 23, 1883, Walla Walla, WA–d.
